The Supreme Court of India gave the highest body of the Indian cricket permissions to move ahead with the Annual General Meeting scheduled to be held on Sunday in Chennai. However the SC has put restrictions on the participation of Narayanaswami Srinivasan in any position of the committee even if he is elected as the President for the third time in succession.
Justice A.K.Patnaik, who headed the apex court bench, remarked that Srinivasan will not be able to take charge of his office even if he is re-elected until the court takes any decision on a petition by Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB). Aditya Verma, secretary of CAB moved to the court seeking a suspension on Srinivasan taking the presidential chair in BCCI as Gurunath Meiyappan, Srini’s son-in-law, is facing a probe on the charge of taking active part in spot-fixing and betting. Srinivasan has moved away from Meiyappan since the day he was brought under such allegations but Srinivasan himself is alleged by the CBI to have taken a part in a case of corruption which also involves YSR Congress Party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy. This incident has really put the Srinivasan camp on the back foot in the court.
