Formula One champion Sebastian Vettel proved his excellence for one more time when he took the pole position at the fastest track of the season in Monza, Italy. Ferrari’s Spanish driver Fernando Alonso grabbed the second position ahead of Red Bull driver Mark Webber but failed to reduce the 46 points in the points table.
It was another brilliant exhibition of driving skills from Sebastian Vettel as he raced to take the number 1 spot in 1hour 18 minutes and 33.352 seconds; 5 seconds clear of his closest rival Fernando Alonso. Alonso starting the race behind hid Ferrari teammate Felipe Massa pushed hard till the end but only managed to finish second, ahead of Australian Mark Webber by less than 1 second. This double podium finish from their drivers enabled Red Bull to strengthen their hold over the constructors’ championship. Ferrari’s Felipe Massa finished fourth as he managed to hold on to his starting grid position.
It was yet another disappointing outing for Lewis Hamilton as he managed only to finish within the points bracket at ninth behind his teammate Nico Rosberg and ahead of compatriot Jenson Button of McLaren. The other drivers who finished within the points bracket are N. Hulkenberg (Sauber), D. Ricciardo (Toro Rosso) and R. Grosjean (Lotus). While Force India’s Adrian Sutil managed to better his starting grid position to finish at 16th, his teammate Paul di Resta failed to finish the race. JE Vergne of Toro Rosso was the only other contender who failed to finish the race.
The next race-day is scheduled to be held at Belgium on September 23-25. All eyes will be on Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso as they gear for yet another showdown as the season is approaching its business end. While the two drivers will be fighting it out on the fast lanes, the stage is set for the two constructors to spice an exciting battle outside the fast tracks.
