Uttar Pradesh government has imposed curfew in some parts of Muzaffarnagar district as the tension continue to mounting there. 12 people including 2 journalists have been killed so far in a communal riot and several were injured. Army has taken over the streets and so far 30 people have been detained from both communities.
“The situation is under control. Eight Army columns have been called in. Flag marches have begun. No incidents reported since last night,” Uttar Pradesh Law and Order ADG Arun Kumar said.
Army flagged march in Civil Lines, Kotwali and Nai Mandi – the most hit areas on Sunday morning.
Although UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav warned that “strict action will be taken against the guilty”, but the deteriorating law and order in the state bolting a question mark Akhilesh’s authority and ability itself.
