The highly acclaimed Indian filmmaker Mira Nair is all set to direct her next “Bengali Detective”. Based on a documentary film by Phil Cox this was screened on Sundance Film Festival 2011. The basic plot revolves around a fearless private eye whose dream was to dance on an Indian television. The film depicts the underbellies of Kolkata thereby portraying the underworld ties of the city.
The film will be produced by Fox Searchlight who bought the remake rights in Sundance. After two successive worldwide grosser based in India – namely Slumdog Millionare and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Searchlight once again gets back to India with a bash.
After garnering mixed reviews for her last The Reluctant Fundamentalist – Nair this time returns to her Monsoon Wedding writer Sabrina Dhawan. The shooting will be mostly happen in Kolkata only.
