Rafael Nadal creates history on Sunday at Roland Garros as the Spaniard beats fellow countryman David Ferrer 6-3 6-2 6-3 in the French Open final and becomes the first man to win same Grand Slam singles title for the record eight times.
The ‘King of Clay’ Nadal wins his 12th Grand Slam title and strengthen the record of 59th win out of 60 matches in Paris. Since his return to the court after seventh months rest following a knee injury, Nadal won his seventh title of this season so far.
‘‘Thanks to everyone in my family and team. Without their support, especially when I was out of action, this would have been impossible,’’ said emotional Nadal.
“It is one of the most special ones,” the champion added.
However not Ferrer , but a protester delays Nadal’s win as the shirtless man hoisting a flaming, carrying sparking flare entered suddenly in the court and delaying the match for several minutes.
