Seven-time champion Rafael Nadal and world number 1 Novak Djokovic will fight the French Open semifinals on Friday at the Roland Garros.
While Djokovic bids to take his first French open to complete a career Grand Slam, Nadal is looking forward to become the first man to win eight same Grand Slam titles.
“If you win, you didn’t win anything yet. It’s not the final; it’s the semifinals. You are not playing a match for a title. You are just playing a match to be in the final. So it’s a big difference,” said Nadal after crashing Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in the quarter finals.
“I would prefer an easier opponent,” Nadal said. But it’s Novak, and I have to accept that it’s going to be a very tough match,” he added.
“I’m ready to play five sets,” Djokovic told the crowd after he beat Tommy Haas, 6-3, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
The Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play Spaniard David Ferrer in the other semifinal.
In the women’s event defending champion Maria Sharapova will face two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka and world number 1 Serena Williams will meet 2012 runner-up Sara Errani in the other semifinal.
