IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla broke his silence and said on Wednesday that BCCI President N Srinivasan should step aside from his post during the probe into the spot-fixing scandal.
“Whatever suggestions are made by the panel, should be implemented immediately. No matter how big the person, the guilty will be punished. We have recommended to Srinivasan that he must stay away while the probe is underway. But it will be his prerogative to choose. He is the elected President of the BCCI. It’s the question of the image of the cricket board. He is maintaining that he is innocent. It’s a call he will have to take. We want a thorough enquiry and the guilty to be punished,” Shukla said.
Shukla’s statement came after he met BCCI vice president and member of the Board’s disciplinary committee Arun Jaitley.
Yesterday union minister and BCCI Board Member Jyotiraditya Scindia demanded Srinivasan’s resignation.
BCCI chief N Srinivasan is under tremendous pressure as his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested by police for his alleged role in betting on IPL matches.
