Bollywwod actress Priyanka Chopra has strongly criticised actress Mallika Sherawat for her comments on India being a ‘regressive’ society.
In an interview with an international magazine at the 66th Cannes Film Festival, Mallika Sherawat said India is a “regressive” society and she feel depressed to see the condition of women here.
“I made a conscious decision to divide my time between Los Angeles, America and India. So, now when I experience that social freedom in America and when I go back to India which is so regressive for women… Its really depressing too see that as an independent women,” 36-year-old, Mallika Sherawat told the magazine.
Actress Priyanka Chopra took on Sherawat and said, “When it comes to Mallika’s statements, I think they were very callous and I don’t agree with her. It was upsetting for me as a woman. It was upsetting for me as a girl who comes from India. I think it was extreme misrepresentation of our nation. I don’t think it’s fair. It was something of which I felt extremely offended by.”
“I think we are a progressive nation. I disagree that we are a regressive nation. We are all sitting here and talking about educating the girl child, taking our country forward. I think it’s a misrepresentation of what our great nation is on the world platform,” Priyanka added.
Model turn actress Sherlyn Chopra also reacted Sherawat’s comments.
o took to social networking site Twitter to show her disapproval.
In Twitter she wrote “Had India been “regressive” & “depressing”, people such as myself would’ve been outta work..Why endorse a prejudicial opinion of INDIA???!!!”
