Rajasthan Royals defeated host Delhi Daredevils by 5 runs in a remarkable IPL match at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Saturday. This was Rajasthan Royals first win at the Kotla ground.
Delhi Daredevils choked heavily and lost last 7 wickets for just 12 runs at an unexpected event. Delhi needed 17 runs from 12 balls to over past the target of 165 but could not do so.
David Warner’s brilliant knock of 77 off 56 balls went in-vain. His run out from Brad Hodge’s direct hit changed the game. Kevon Cooper who bowled the last over only conceded three runs and took two wickets.
“The match changed with Warner’s run out. Brad Hodge was exceptional on the field today,” Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid said after the match.
‘Everything went off well for me today, got a bit of luck as well. We lost last year, nice to get one back. I have done a lot of practice, my preparation was pretty spot on. Very proud of the guys, it was a mixed performance, we are a young side and go into every match as the underdogs,” Dravid added.
Disappointed Delhi captain Mahela Jayawardene said, ‘We paced our chase pretty well, except for the last 10 balls. They kept their nerves, we did not. They fielded much better then us. Umesh bowled pretty well after coming back from an injury. We can hopefully turn it around and get back with a victory.’
