Government to cancel Aakash tablet project

The government of India is all set to scrap dream project of former IT and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal by cancelling Aakash tablet project.

The Human Resource and Development Minister Pallam Raju said that the government will cancel the Aakash tablets due to delays in developing, a faulty processor and low memory.

Aakash tablet, India’s low cost version of an iPad, priced at $35, has been failed to meet expectations and the government admitted failure in delivering it.

Kapil Sibal had promised of 1 lakh Aakash tablets by 31st March from UK-based vendor Datawind but till now only 17000 gadgets have been delivered to IIT Bombay in which most of them were found faulty.

According to the government there was a huge disparity between the prototype and final version of Aakash in terms of quality.

BJP’s Jaynarayan Vyas told CNN-IBN, “I am not surprised at the fate of Aakash. It has been a disastrous failure”.
