36-year-old Bhaichung Bhutia, the former Indian Football team captain, has been appointed chairman of the technical committee of All India Football Federation.
“He is becoming chairman of the technical committee. The decision was taken by president Praful Patel. Normally, any committee or head of it is formed with the concurrence of the president,” AIFF vice-president Subrata Dutta told PTI.
Bhutia who played for India for 16 years, scored 42 goals from 107 matches. He retired in 2011.
Bhaichung Bhutia was one of the most successful captains for India. Under his leadership India won the Nehru Cup twice, LG Cup and SAFF Championship three times.
Under Bhaichung’s captaincy India won AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 after 24 years.
