The Cairo Court in Egypt has confirmed “the death penalty by hanging” of 21 soccer fans on Saturday over their role in a soccer riot which killed 74 people in Port in February 2012.
The death sentences were first ordered January 26.
The court also given 15 years jail term to two senior police officers for their inactive role in the riot. 5 people were received long term jail sentence, while 73 received shorter jail terms. Court has acquitted 28.
The stadium riot took place on 2012 at a football match between Cairo’s Al-Ahly team and Al-Masry.
Many fans celebrated after the court rulling.
“This is a just verdict and has calmed us all down. Our martyrs have been vindicated,” a football fan told Reuters.
