The U.N. Security Council imposes new sanctions against North Korea on Thursday over its latest nuclear test. The sanctions come at a time when Pyongyang issued nuclear threat against the United States and its allies. North Korea dubbed US as “criminal threatening global peace”.
The 15-member UN security council unanimously condemned North Korea’s nuclear programs and voted in favour of sanctions resolution, drafted by the US and China.
“Taken together, these sanctions will bite, and bite hard. ..The strength, breadth and severity of these sanctions will raise the cost to North Korea of its illicit nuclear program and further constrain its ability to finance and source materials and technology for its ballistic missile, conventional and nuclear weapons programs,” said Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the UN.
