To reduce the malpractices in passport services, the government of India is soon going to adopt a process under which one has to pay online to get an appointment for getting a new passport.
According to the passport authorities, 25-30% applicants do not turn up at the passport offices on the stipulated date after taking appointment.
The proposed online payment service will be effective from March 2013.
Government had issued 73.65 lakh passports in 2011 and it is estimated to touch 80 lakh by the end of fiscal year 2012.
